The office for Small World was done on an 800 sq. yards plot in NOIDA, in 1998.

 

The design brief was very clear- since the office has international clients, the building and interiors have to represent Indian Ethos, yet keeping the functioning of a modern office intact.

 

The clients had a shoestring budget after investing a lot of money on the land.

 

The first decision was to give a beautifully landscaped garden in the front, pushing the building a bit backward.

The building exteriors were done in Grey and red sandstone grit finishes, giving the clients a reasonable yet low maintenance exteriors. The finish does not show any dirt or black suit from the industries all around even after 20 years of its completion.

 

The entrance corridor in the driveway was eye-catching with a series of Archways done in grit finish, which over the years was covered in ivy creepers giving the required green softness to the exteriors.

 

The corridor culminates in a four-pillared, entrance pavilion, leading to the Reception.

The entrance has a double-height atrium with a pure brick dome done by artists from the Laurie Baker Center.

The huge glass window below the dome and the railings were inspired from the designs of Frank Lloyd Wright.

 

A lot of natural materials was used throughout the building.

 

A Vastumandala done in granite and marble sits on the floor right below the dome.

The flooring patterns in the Conference room, Meeting room and corridor also display Indian Craftsmanship.

All throughout the building, low-cost Indian marble and granite were used.

The Conference room overlooks the landscaped exteriors and was furnished in Leather and Wood furniture.

The Reception and Conference room has a lot of space around for display of products by vendors.

 

The director’s rooms on the first floor also overlook the garden below through the big glasses.

The director’s tables are again is in pure wood and leather, displaying Indian craftsmanship.

 

Even after 20 years, this office is enjoyed by the occupants and the clients equally. Every space is filled with natural light and freshness. This is truly a modern office that symbolizes rich Indian tradition.
